This is a grey ceramic lidded butter dish, with charming pink blossom highlights.  It’s by the English firm Shorter & Son and its colours are classic 1930s. Butter dishes are among the hardest pieces of kitchenalia to source, particularly at good prices, because everyone wants them. This piece matches exactly the milk jug and sugar bowl also offered here.  Shorter & Son is not as well-known as the major ceramics brands, but it consistently produced high quality pieces. Shorter & Son is still affordable when compared to the more famous brands, but that will change as more collectors discover it.
